Glasswells celebrates 1st birthday in Ipswich with giant cake

There was plenty for everyone, thanks to a giant birthday cake celebrating Glasswells first anniversary in Ipswich!

Staff at the leading home furnishings retailer celebrated its first year in the town by baking a huge cake, then sharing it out at their Place to Eat restaurant.

Andrea Johnston, manager of Glasswells Ipswich showroom, said, "It's been a terrific first year and we have been successful beyond our expectations. So we decided to thank all our customers by sharing out our home-baked birthday cake."

Glasswells opened its 73,000 sq.ft. showroom in Ranelagh Road in early December 2008, following a demanding 35 week building programme. It was an instant hit with customers, many of whom were familiar with Glasswells big showroom in Bury St Edmunds and smaller ones in Martlesham Heath, Haverhill and Saffron Walden.

"Undoubtedly this year has been tougher in retail terms than anyone could have predicted," said managing director, Paul Glasswell. "But we have been delighted by the welcome that we have received in Ipswich. We firmly believed that there was a gap in the market in east Suffolk and we have been proved right."

"We like to think that we have brought something different to Ipswich. We offer the widest range of value-for-money home furnishings, gifts and lighting in the town, and our interior design service has proved very popular. Our Place to Eat restaurant has also proved to be a big attraction, with customers enjoying freshly prepared meals and snacks," he added.

"All in all, we’re very happy at the end of our first year."
